All write.
Writeboard by 37signals went live the other day. It’s great: a free collaborative writing tool in your web browser. Share a document with a buddy and watch the comments and revisions roll out.
Naturally, it’s all AJAX-y with its Web 2.0 goodness, but what’s most interesting is it still carries 37signals’ motto of do-one-thing-really-well. For example, it doesn’t do drag-and-drop, nor does it import or export Word documents. In fact, they’re more than happy to point you over to Writely if that’s what you want.
37signals’ philosophy to their apps is very similar to the model of UNIX shell commands, and makes it obvious to me that Web 3.0 will be all about piping web applications together—and those apps that become too closed off will be the ones that get left behind.
